Pre Purchase BfA Then Buy Collectors Edition

UPDATE: I didn't trust the original GM, I put in several more tickets for confirmation. NONE of them could definitively say that it would work!

UPDATE 2: See my new post on the 14th August - They were WRONG. It DIDN'T work. I had to put in a ticket to support to get a new key.

It has apparently been a thing for the last couple of expansions that you can pre-purchase a digital version of the upcoming expansion and get all the goodies that come with it.

Then if you want to upgrade to the Collectors edition on release day you can do so and release the original pre-purchase key and use it on another account or sell it.

A bit clunky, but it allowed you to effectively pre-purchase a collectors edition.

After speaking to a GM last night (screenshots to follow) it appears the process has been streamlined! I don't know if they changed it for more recent expansions but for this expansion this is what you  can do.

  1. But a pre-purchase edition, either a physical box or a digital download.
  2. Apply all the pre-purchase goodness to your account.
  3. On release day, go out and purchase your shiny Collectors edition box.

In your battle.net account you should be able to upgrade your pre-purchased version with the CD Key of the Collectors edition.

This will no longer release the old key but instead upgrade your account and refund the cost of the pre-purchase to your Battle.net account, which you can then use to purchase a digital download for your second account or whatever you want.

Now, don't take my word for it, or blame me if this is not so (If it's not then I'm going to be might p1ssed off!), below is my entire conversation with the GM.

Note:

a) When upgrading to the Collectors edition you don't get an additional level 110 boost, instead you get the refund.

b) The GMs still won't give you  a free ride to GM Island! Gits!
